2nd Steering Committee of TOURISMO, in the city of Varna, Bulgaria

On 17 and 18 September FRI participated in the 2nd Steering Committee of TOURISMO project (Interreg Euro MED programme), which was held in the city of Varna, Bulgaria. The event was organized by VEDA partner, Varna Economic Developmnet Agency, at the Cherno More hotel. During the two days in Bulgaria the latest advancements of the activities of the project were presented, related to 3 project WPs:

WP1 – design and set up of solution deployment

WP2 – implementation and evaluation of testing

WP3 – exploitation, sustainability and scaling up of project result

During the discussion on ongoing activities, it is important to mention that the 8 pilots of the project (Valencia Port, Valencia city, Golden Bay beach, Florence city, Bisevo island, Rhodes city, Varna city, Limassol Port) have already started or will soon begin the procurement phase to to start the monitoring activities of tourist flows. There will be drones, thermal cameras, sensors to count the passage of people, and more, and all the data produced through these measurements will land on an ICT platform, Snap4City, which will combine them with other data already present in the 8 pilots (e.g. meteorological data, parking capacity, et al.) to return more complete and relatable information that can help decision makers in better managing tourist flows in the pilot areas.

The index of a methodology to specify the pilot actions was also presented, it is a document that will guide the implementation of the activities in the 8 project sites. The methodology is under development and is led by FRI, with the support of Unifi for the technical parts concerning data collection through a consolidated methodology on the development of the data life cycle (development life cycle) and the development phase for connection with the Snap4City platform. The methodology will be developed during the second semester of the project (July-December 2024) and will be a useful document both for the pilots themselves and for any site/area that wants to approach and develop a new pilot area, as in the document valid guidelines to replicate the experience will be clearly stated. For more information on the project: https://tourismo.interreg-euro-med.eu/
