TOURISMO Project Partners Meet in Limassol for Third Steering Committee

The third Project Steering Committee meeting of TOURISMO, our project co-funded by the Interreg Euro-MEDprogram, took place in Limassol, Cyprus, from 26 to 27 March. The event brought together project partners from across the Mediterranean EU region (Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Malta, and Spain) to review ongoing activities and coordinate the next steps.

Fondazione per la Ricerca e l’Innovazione shared updates on the Florence pilot site, one of the 8demonstration areas involved in the project, alongside the city of Varna (Bulgaria), the island of Bisevo (Croatia), the port of Limassol (Cyprus), the city of Rhodes (Greece), the Golden Bay beach (Malta), and the port and city of Valencia (Spain).

Now entering a key stage of implementation, the project, running over a total of 33 months and currently in its third semester, has seen all pilot sites launch, or in some cases complete, the installation of advancedtechnologies to monitor tourist flows and environmental parameters. The devices being deployed include thermal cameras, Wi-Fi sniffers, pax counters, monitors, and sensors for tracking environmental conditions.

The aim is to equip public decision-makers with practical tools to better understand local dynamics and design targeted, evidence-based interventions tailored to each territory’s specific context.

In the coming months, each site will begin collecting and analyzing a large volume of data from both the installed devices and historical sources. All data will be integrated into the Snap4City platform, developed by the DISIT Lab at the University of Florence, where it will be processed and displayed through interactive dashboards capable of offering in-depth insights into tourism trends and environmental dynamics in each monitored area.

Among the key innovations under development, a new sentiment analysis tool is expected to further enhance the project by collecting and structuring feedback on visitor satisfaction across the participating locations.

Specifically, the tool will:

  • Centralize the collection of short surveys on tourist experiences
  • Geolocate responses based on the reference area
  • Generate customized QR codes to promote on-site participation
  • Organize and store the collected data
  • Track sentiment trends over time, providing useful indications to guide tourism management strategies
